The apple cider vinegar diet is based on the idea that consuming two or three teaspoons of apple cider vinegar or their equivalent in tablet form before eating meals helps curb your appetite and reduces cravings.

The diet was made popular in the 1950s by Dr D.C. Jarvis and his book titled ‘Folk Medicine: A Vermont Doctors Guide to Good Health’. Dr. Jarvis also believed consuming apple cider vinegar caused the body to burn fat instead of store it. Apple cider vinegar has also been used by people with high blood pressure or diabetes.

Effective studies of the apple cider vinegar diet are limited and have included use of a low calorie diet along with the vinegar so any weight loss cliams may be simply down to the diet alone without any effect from the vinegar.

This diet is classed as a ‘fad diet’ as its claims have not been medically certified.

Where can you buy Apple Cider Vinegar?

Apple cider vinegar can now be purchased in tablet form in most health food shops, and many supermarkets. This makes the diet more available that the traditional liquid form which was hard to digest.

There are no official guidelines as to recommend the daily intake of apple cider vinegar. The most popular method appears to be taking 2-3 teaspoons per day mixed with juice or water. When apple cider vinegar is taken in tablet the most common dose on the instructions appears to be 285 milligrams.
