Using the Perfect Diet Tracker with an Asus eeePC

The latest version of the Perfect Diet Tracker will now work on both a Linux and Windows based eeePC making it easier than ever to monitor your diary on the move.

As the Perfect Diet Tracker requires a 24 bit display, and the default eeePC setting is 16 bits, you need to make a small change to the configuration files to allow the software to run.

Updating the eeePC screen color depth

To update the color depth to 24 bits (millions of colors) you need to do the following:

Press the ‘Ctrl’, ‘Alt’ and ‘T’ keys together on the keyboard to open a terminal window.

To backup your current settings type : sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.backup

In the window type : sudo nano -w /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Scroll down and replace : DefaultDepth 16 with DefaultDepth 24

Press ‘Ctrl’ and ‘X’ to save and exit

Reboot your eeePC, you will then be running in 24 bit, or ‘millions of colors’ mode.

Installing the Perfect Diet Tracker

Installation is very easy, simply download the Linux installation file (here) and save the file to your ‘My Documents’ folder.

Once the download is complete, click on the ‘Work’ tab, then on ‘File Manager’ and locate the pdt3linux.tar.gz file located in ‘My Documents’. Click on the file to open it.

Now, drag the ‘Perfect Diet Tracker’ folder to your ‘My Home’ folder, then delete the pdt4linuz.tar.gz file.

You can then start the Diet Tracker by clicking on the application icon within the Perfect Diet Tracker folder.

Adding an shortcut icon to the eeePC AsusLauncher interface

If you want to add an icon to the eeePC AsusLauncher instead of starting the application using the filemanager, you can do so using the launcher tools available here.

A 130×130 pixel icon for the Diet Tracker (pdticon.png) can be found in the icons folder.
